COURSE OVERVIEW

This Pro Tools 201M course covers techniques for working with Pro Tools systems in a professional music production environment.

Concepts and skills learned in Pro Tools 101, 110, and 201 are reinforced with practical music-specific examples.

Access to the certification exam requires that previous exams have been passed.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

Prepare a session
Track and overdub
Control virtual instruments
Perform advanced MIDI production
Apply professional editing techniques
Sample in Pro Tools using software samplers
Employ professional audio editing techniques
Perform advanced tempo editing
Arrange and produce using advanced techniques
Mix and automate
Print your mix
 
 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate to Advance musical knowledge and skills are required to study this course.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

   Intermediate to Advance level of understanding of recording techniques, processes, and equipment.
   Successfully completion of the Pro Tools 101: Introduction to Pro Tools course.
   Successfully completion of the Pro Tools 110: Music Production With Pro Tools course.
   Successfully completion of the Pro Tools 201: Pro Tools Production II course.
   Basic understanding of recording techniques, processes, and equipment.
   English Language aptitude: speaking, reading, writing and comprehension.
   Basic Mathematical aptitude

RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS:

   A Passion for music
   Diligence, punctuality and dedication
   An Inquisitive attitude
 

ABOUT CLASSES

This course allows for only 16 students per intake to secure maximum contact with the students. Each student will work on a dedicated DAW workstation during the course. Classes consist of practical hand's-on class exercises, demonstrations and assignments.

   Full time classes are presented over 4 days from 9:30 till 16:30 in the afternoons
   Part time classes are presented on two week-days per week over 4 weeks from 18:00 till 21:30 in the evenings
 

PRESCRIBED MATERIAL

TEXTBOOKS

The prescribed course textbooks are not included in the course fee. All other course notes and material are included.

SOFTWARE

The course is presented but (not limited) on the latest version of "Pro Tools" Digital Audio Workstation Software.

In order to work remotely as well, it is recommended that students obtain their own licenses of the primary software platforms.

The following system configuration is required for this course:

Pro Tools|HD 2 Accel
SYNC I/O or SYNC HD
MIDI I/O or similar multi-port MIDI interface
Artists Series, C|24, D-Command, or D-Control
HD I/O, HD OMNI, 192 I/O, 96 I/O, or 96i I/O
MIDI keyboard controller

Everything you need to successfully complete the course is provided for on Campus during your sessions.

All enrolled students can book and use the Institution's fully equipped studios and practice room to complete their practical projects during the course.

If you want to gain more experience in music technology, excel at the software used in the course and be able to complete assessment tasks remotely, it is strongly recommended that you have access to your own DAW setup.
